I have been a firefighter/paramedic for 18 years in the metro area. It was my dream job, I could not imagine myself doing anything else.
It is a special skill to be able to bring calm to hectic situations and positively affect the outcome for people. A skill that takes years to hone. Early in my career I wanted action and excitement, but as the years have gone by the "action and excitement" has taken its toll. I often dread going to work and wonder if I can do this until retirement. Ultimately it is my family that pays the price. I can be tired and irritated with them. It is frustrating because while I am at work, I want nothing more than to be at home, however when I get home I can be hard to be around. I can feel at times that I am not happy anywhere. Not at home or at work.
I am very thankful to be a part of this program because I have seen so many positive impacts with other people. I want to be better for my family.
I am looking forward to this process.
